Inter-club match with Indian Palms late in February, 2018
So, did we have a challenging but fun time hosting Toscana on Tuesday? It was an extreme round-robin format in order to accommodate the big group, but it worked for the most part, with nimble clockwise rotations. Here are the photos of the Toscana team, the joint group, and the after-play time at the Arroyo Grill.
The inter-club with Trilogy/Polo Grounds here this Saturday at 10am will feature a more traditional format, with 4 players per court and two rounds of three games to 11, win by 2. They have more men than women playing, so we’ll do some M/W doubles but more mixed. Here’s the signups we have to date. Please let us know ASAP (use the link below) if there are any changes and we may be able to add a player or two.
We have an inter-club pickleball event with Toscana CC this coming Tuesday, 1/23, at our courts at 3pm. We originally had 4pm as the start time, but we want to offer an opportunity for our guests to join us after playing, with the bar menu and libations in the Arroyo Grill (which closes at 6pm). So, we hope this change works for all. We’ll have a strong signup (and Toscana has a big group coming). Here are the Indian Ridge signups we currently have from email responses and courtside signups this weekend. Let me know ASAP if there’s any last minute dropouts.
Folks, We had a fun time last Sunday morning at Desert Horizons CC, with its six (6) brand new courts, good players and great hospitality, as these photos show.
Now, next Tuesday, 1/23, at 4pm, we’ll be hosting Toscana CC with all the hospitality at our command; many of us will likely repair to the Arroyo Grill after playing our hearts out. So, let us know below (or by email to email@example.com) if you and yours want to play. We’ll try to accommodate as many as possible, so please let us soon.
Well, the sun went down after playing some challenging pickleball at Sun City on Friday. We all repaired to the “dining pavilion” for pizza and beer with our hosts (actually the pizza was late, no cups or glasses, etc. but they tried). Meanwhile, the inept photographer took these fuzzy and dark photos of the happy Indian Ridge warriors relaxing after doing battle. Hopefully you can recognize one another. Said “inept photographer” will attempt to do better at the forthcoming inter-club matches with Desert Horizon CC, so be patient.
The players signed up at this point for the Sun City event at 5pm this coming Friday (1/12) are as listed below. Our goal is to have at least 16 players to enjoy this event of round-robin matches on their eight courts, followed by pizza and beer provided by our hosts (BYO wine). If you want in or must drop out, please let us know ASAP, either via reply below or emailing me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Thanks for your attention. We’ll send on the final roster and directions for this fun event in the next couple of days.
The Desert Pickleball League kicked off its first matches yesterday with mixed results for our IRCC teams. The Men’s team struggled in winning only one match in four against a good Indian Palms CC team. However, the Women’s team, captained by Kim Boestam and Andrea Rufkin, swept all four of their matches against that same club. So, congrats go to these ladies “who took it to them:” Susan Bogan, Mary Stoltzman (who is from Palm Valley), Beth Keno, Sue van Geel, MJ Chapman, Lorie Yavorsky, Andrea Rifkin, and Kim Boestam.
We’ll continue to report League results as the season goes onward. But League play on Thursday afternoon at 1pm raises a question of how many of our members will be playing later on Thursdays in our 4pm Open Play time. One thought is to stay with our Tuesday 4pm Open Play time, but move the Thursday 4pm time to Friday at 4pm. Of course, our weekend Open Play on Saturdays and Sundays at 9am would remain the same. If you have any thoughts about this, please comment below.
Oh, recall that we have some “refugees” from closed-down Freedom Park coming this Sunday for our Open Play time. Please do our Statue of Liberty thing and warmly welcome these wandering pickleballers (they’re good players, too).
Get your calendars out and check on these dates for an inter-club match with
Sun City – Palm Desert on Friday afternoon, 1/12, at 5pm at their club located on Washington, about a half-mile north of Highway I10. There will be about 1 1/2 hours of fun round-robin pickleball and then pizza and beer (BYO wine) thereafter.
Desert Horizon CC on Sunday morning, 1/14, at 10am at their club located on Cook Street, on the left just before Highway 111. We’ll have about two hours of round-robin pickleball and a social gathering thereafter.
Let us know below if you’ll be available to play in either or both these events, and if you have any questions, as soon as possible.
FLASH: THERE WILL BE A SPECIAL EVENT AT OPEN PLAY ON OUR COURTS THIS SUNDAY AT 9AM. YOU MAY NOT KNOW THAT THE PICKLEBALL COURTS AT FREEDOM PARK ARE CLOSED FOR TWO WEEKS FOR RESURFACING. SO, IN THE GOOD SPIRIT OF INDIAN RIDGE PICKLEBALLERS (THINK STATUE OF LIBERTY MESSAGE), A CONTINGENT OF REFUGEES FROM FREEDOM PARK HAVE BEEN INVITED TO JOIN US FOR PLAY THIS SUNDAY. PLEASE WELCOME THEM (THEY’RE ALL GOOD PLAYERS) AND WE’LL HAVE SOME FUN PLAY.
Oh, stay tuned for the results of the first inaugural week of Desert Pickleball League play, and the dates this month when we’ll be having inter-club events with Silver Sands Tennis Club, Trilogy, Sun City- Palm Desert, and Desert Horizons CC. Should be much fun!
