Further on parking at the courts …….

Folks,

The newly red-painted curbing on the west side of the entry steps (see below) will be repainted white, like the curbing around the street curve, and will continue to be available for parking of  both carts and cars.  Thanks to management for immediately correcting the miscommunication and to Andrea Rifkin for helping point out the problem.

Parking at the courts………….

Folks,

There’s been some changes in parking by the courts over the last few days. Apparently concerns about street safety was raised by some members at the Club’s recent Annual Meeting and management responded. Unfortunately there was miscommunication about what to do and the curb on each side of the entry stairs was painted “no parking” red. Our General Manager, Hall Wade, noted the error and, as you can see above, the red has been painted over white around the corner, indicating it’s OK to park there. But the curb on the same side of the street before the entry stairs has remained painted “no parking” red, as you can see in the photo below.

20181128_135506  As this new “no parking” zone takes away a dozen or so parking spots for golf carts, like mine above, and seems to present a lower hazard than, say, SUVs,  I’ve asked our General manager if we could allow parking for “Golf Carts Only” in this zone. I’ll let you know if this is OKed. But for now, like the “Kitchen,” please stay out of the red zone.

 Evening Play at Sun Down

Folks,

As the weather has gotten cooler, some of you have asked if we should start play at 3pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays. My quicky survey about it last Thursday at JKs supported the change. So, starting tomorrow (11/20), we’ll begin play at 3pm, rather than 4pm,  and go to 6pm (just in case some still come at 4pm). Sorry for the late notice. See you on the courts!

The precocious one…….

This is Anna Leigh Waters who comes to the Nationals from the Del Rey Beach pickleball club my brother organized a few years ago. She won gold in the 4.0 19+ class today, while as we write her mother is playing for gold as well in the 5.0 19+ (had young partner and played down). Oh, the old guy you see was inserted in the photo for contrast, you know, youthful smile and then whatever.

“Pickles” is there………

If you’re planning to take in the pickleball National Championships at the Tennis Gardens next week, you’ll be greeted by the dog, Pickles, for whom the game is named.

A group of Indian Ridge folks will be there on Thursday and Saturday checking out the play on the outer 40 courts (no charge).  And a number of them have purchased seats those days in Stadium 3 to watch the pro semi and final medal matches ( $10-50 per seat), with intermittent forays to eat, drink and enjoy some music together. There’s a $10 parking fee and Stadium 3 seats can be purchased at its entry points.  So, if you want to see great pickleball played, it’s your  chance. Here’s the pickleball tournament link where you can check the schedule of play and then the results after those matches (need to page down to the tournament start on 11/2): Go to Pickleballtournaments.com

Oh, and you should know that we have some Indian Ridgers playing in the Nationals:

Nancy Shewfelt (women’s doubles and mixed), Jim Gilford & Beth Keno (mixed doubles) and Rod Smith (men’s singles and doubles, 85+).
