So, let us know your availability and interest by clicking on one or two the links below. Then, we’ll get back to you with follow-up information about an organization meeting, some team practices and the steps to sign up with the League.**

Look for the “Kitty” can…..

20191117_113403

Folks, There will be a “Kitty” can on one of the court tables during weekend Open Play times for the next few weeks. As discussed in a recent blog, we’re encouraging our pickleballers to donate $10 (per player) or $20 (per couple) to defray the costs of snacks, beverages, etc. that have been borne by just a few individuals. Of course, it’s not mandatory, but helpful in maintaining a quality pickleball program, beyond the generous direct support of the Club. Oh, there’s also an envelope at the Fitness Desk, where cash and checks (payable to Nadine Woods) can be left. In either case, please list your donation so we can keep good control of the process.

Thanks for your generosity.

A Fun Day………..

20191116_095809
The Palm Desert Greens folks joined us for round robin pickleball matches this morning. Great Fun!

This was the first of a number of inter-club events we’re planning this season. Thanks to Nadine Woods and her lady friends, we usually have water bottles, balls and snacks at these events, with the cost borne by them. The idea surfaced to ask our Indian Ridge pickleballers to contribute a modest $10 per player ($20 per couple) to the “Kitty” for the season.  It’s not mandatory but it would help spread the costs for those things we enjoy at the courts. So, you’ll see a big “Kitty” can or jar on the courtside table during Open Play times for cash deposits. And, if you miss this opportunity, they’ll also be an envelope at the Fitness Desk.

Thanks in advance for your support. Go Pickleballers!

Last year’s Indian Ridge/Palm Desert Greens players. Such an impressive group!!

REPEAT MESSAGE: “With such a good time last season, we’ve scheduled our first inter-club event of this season with the Palm Desert Greens folks. It’s a round-robin format here at Indian Ridge next Saturday morning, November 16, from 10am-12pm. Spaces are limited, so sign up now by clicking on the link below and sending us an email.”

We are still in need of Indian Ridge players in this, our first, inter-club event of the year. Palm Desert Greens has sent us an impressive list of their players, so if you haven’t signed up already, please do by clicking the link below and sending us an email.

Enhanced Open Play Format

Enhancing Open Play!

Our Indian Ridge Pickleball participant numbers have increased dramatically so we are introducing a new (but tried and true) format to enhance the OPEN PLAY experience.
Effective this Sunday, November 10th, we are going to assign specific courts based on skill level. Here’s how it will work:
1) Court Assignments: we will offer 2 courts for Beginners or Easy Play; 3 courts for Intermediate; 2 courts for Advanced (one offering Challenge Play). These will be indicated by signs on fences. Advanced or Intermediate level players are encouraged to play their initial game (s) with those less skilled, to increase player development.

2) Rotation: when courts are full, we ask that you indicate your interest to play by hanging your paddle in the fence outside of that court (or stacking it on the adjacent table if more convenient). After each game the next four players with their paddles in line (or on bottom of the stack) will rotate in. Please read the bulletin board posted  Player Rotation  guidelines for when there are only 1-3 players waiting.

3) Skill Level: you will decide where you feel most comfortable playing.
This is a test! It is meant to add structure, not rules. We will try it out for 2 weeks and see whether the format works for everyone. We welcome suggestions along the way, but do ask that initially you ‘go with the flow’ to make this a good experience. Together we can find a good format for us at Indian Ridge.

Demo Day report………

If you were at the Head/Penn Demo Day today, you likely learned something about the latest paddles, tested them out and then played some prize-winning games. Here’s the evidence of the fun time we had:

There was also a raffle to win more prizes. Thanks to the Head folks and our pros, Randy Berg and Rhenn Rameriz, for a “good time had by all.”

Things are happening …………

Wow! There’s  alot happening right now at the Club and around town.

First, there’s been more improvements at our courts, like a new bulletin board that will be another means to keep us all informed on court usage, news and upcoming events. It looks like this (without the postings we’re working on):

Second, you’ll note the new, direct entrance being built for Court 1, so play on Court 2 won’t be disrupted.

Finally, with the pickleball National Championships underway at the Indian Wells Tennis Gardens, we have some good news that some older folks might find encouraging. This elder fellow member won the Silver Metal in the Men’s 80+/85+ singles bracket the other day:

The message here is that it’s never too late to go for it (if you can stand the aches and pains the next day, of course).

Note: I’m the publisher and approve this message.

What’s up next???

 Folks,
Hope you all had a great time at last Thursday’s Halloween Party, with Wonder Woman, the Wizard of Oz’s Dorothy, Spider lady and all the great food goodies we enjoyed so much. So, in this party’s afterglow and the Club’s Opening Party nights this Friday and Saturday, along with the Tennis Exhibition this Sunday, we are passing up on the planned Pickleballers Opening Party this Thursday. Instead,
we’re all invited to attend a fun-filled Demo Day with pickleball games & prizes, hosted by the Head paddle people, this coming Friday morning, November 8th,
from 9-11am. Sign up at the Fitness Desk or merely click on the link below and let us know who’s coming.
PS: now that we’re into November, with cooling weather, the Open Play times change to: Tuesdays and Thursdays at 4-6pm, with Saturdays and Sundays at 9-11am
